Reduce Your Energy Costs With Double Glazing Windows From Conservatory Outlet

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

There will be many of you out there who are having to cut back on the amount of money you spend as the cost of living rises. Budgeting is the only way some families can survive in the current climate as things become more expensive and unaffordable. However, they say it is sometimes the small things that make all the difference and this thought process can definitely be applied to the idea of installing new windows in a home.

Replacement windows are energy efficient, which basically means that they will reduce the amount of time that you have to have your heating turned on within the home. They will instead use the warmth of the sun to heat up your household in whichever room they are installed in. They will also prevent any heat generated in the home from passing through the glass, meaning that no energy is wasted.

The great thing about double glazing is that it will trap air between the two panes of glass and therefore also eliminate things such as condensation, something which can be a real nuisance in the winter months. It will prevent cold air from getting into your home, as do conservatories as draughts will tend to disappear when compared with old traditional windows which tend to leave gaps in frames over time.

Some of you may be thinking that you cannot afford to pay for new windows. But, what you must realise is that the money you spend on new windows will more than be recouped in time due to the amount of money you will save on your utility bills. You really would be mad to stick by your current windows as we can guarantee that they will be one of the main sources in your home which is currently wasting energy and harming the environment.

Great Reasons For Choosing Double Glazing From Conservatory Outlet

Monday, June 21st, 2010

We at Conservatory Outlet are always advising you to get new windows installed at your home and you may be seeking good reasons why you should do this. Although we offer affordable windows we know that some of you out there will not part with your old windows lightly and will need further persuasion before doing so. Well we can offer you the following justifications for making the change below:

Condensation
Have you ever noticed when you draw your curtains in the morning that your windows are wet on the inside? If so, this is a result of condensation and is a common occurrence with old wooden timber windows. This can be eliminated with the addition of double glazing as our new windows are formed of two panes of glass which will not be subject to such annoyances.

Draughts
In the winter months we rely on our heating systems heavily because of the cold weather. If you are also suffering from draughts in your windows, then when you try and heat up your home the hot air will also be lost from the glass, meaning a waste in energy. Our uPVC windows have frames which are securely fitting, meaning that such draughts will disappear and be a thing of the past.

Maintenance
You will have noticed that your current windows need to be repainted on a regular basis and that over time they can look tired and worn. By adding replacement windows you will do away with the need to look after them thoroughly as uPVC does not need a lick of paint and will look as good as new for years to come.

New Double Glazing Windows Can Help Sell Your Home In 2010

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

Drive down most streets in the UK at the moment and you will notice a plethora of ‘For Sale’ signs in many front gardens. Unfortunately many people will have had these signs up for months and are struggling to achieve a sale due to the difficult economic situation we currently find ourselves in. What many people do not seem to realise is that you need to make your home unique in some way to make it more appealing to buyers and one of the most cost effective and simple ways of doing this is by getting new windows installed.

Replacement windows could make all the difference as they are extremely eye catching and can genuinely boost the look of a home in an instant following installation. Double glazing can be installed in a short period of time and do not be surprised if the value of your home goes up once they are put in. In this day and age no buyer wants to move into a home which does not have double glazing present, as it can result in draughts invading the home, condensation appearing on the windows and frames becoming worn and tired looking.

New windows are becoming more and more affordable, and whereas previously uPVC was only available in a limited range of colours, you will now find that there are numerous different finishes that can be applied to them. Installing uPVC also means that you no longer have to worry about paining them on a regular basis, as all they need to be kept clean is a bit of soap and water.

Make your home stand out from the competition and avoid the heartache of being unable to secure a sale by also looking into conservatories as another way of improving your household during these hard times.

Avoid A Double Glazing Nightmare! Top Ten Tips Online

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

Top 10 Tips to avoiding the double glazing nightmare we all hear about.

  1. Go by word of mouth. Friends, relatives, neighbours all are good sources for recommendations. If you’re still stuck, an established firm with a good local presence is probably your best bet.
  2. Make sure you get a written contract for your double glazing order. Handwritten notes should not be acceptable, make sure it’s on a company headed paper or is a professionally printed contract which contains mulitple copies that both you and the double glazing company keep.
  3. Don’t be pressured. If you’re getting an aggressive sales pitch from the double glazing salesman, the chances are the company isn’t that concerned with its levels of service and is more interested in the commissions they would earn on the night.
  4. Don’t accept a door to door salesman. Unsolicited visits from sales people should spell trouble. Reputable double glazing companies do not need to drum up trade this way.
  5. Know what you want. If you do your research, you’ll be prepared to ask the right questions.
  6. Be wary of discounts for cash. It might be tempting, but you’re passing up on proof of payment. In terms of protection, your credit card is the safest form of payment as you get protection in the company goes bust before installing your double glazing.
  7. Do your research. Companies House lets you perform an online check of businesses to check they are not in financial trouble or have previously been in administration.
  8. Check the lists. Some councils or consumer groups produce ‘reputable traders’ lists. Another great source if you can’t get personal recommendations.
  9. See for yourself. Choose a company that has a showroom where you can view the quality of the double glazing they are selling.
  10. Trust your first instinct. If you’re in any doubt about using the double glazing company then you are better looking else where.

Quality double glazing and professional fitting can cost a lot of money – don’t always go for the cheapest price! Saving a few £££’s now may lead to a higher cost if the product fails or you need to have the fitting re-done due to poor workmanship.

UPVC Windows & UPVC Doors – are they really worth it?

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Nobody likes to spend money when they do not have to and more so now than ever in the current credit crunch we are all looking to save money. One such expense which many people debate is whether to install replacement windows and doors or not. There are several considerations which you need to think about to determine if you need replacement windows.

One of the most important factors which you must consider is safety and all too often this is surprisingly overlooked. If there was a fire in your house often windows would be the only means of escape therefore particularly first floor and above windows should be easy to open. Often old wooden windows will have been painted so many times that they can no longer be opened and this is a serious safety risk.

Unfortunately it is a sign of the times that we live in that security needs to be a consideration. Locks on older windows and doors are often flimsy and can easily be broken. It is important not to only consider the main front and back door but consider all the external doors in your house such as French doors and patio doors.

It seems like every time we open a newspaper we read how gas and electricity prices are once again set to increase. Or how global warming is getting worse and it is all our responsibilities to do our bit to look after the planet. The windows and doors are one of the weakest spots in many homes in terms of energy efficiency it is predicted that between 25 and 40 percent if the heat in a home could be lost through inefficient windows and doors.

Many people do not realise that their windows and doors are actually inefficient but if any of the following factors sound familiar then the likelihood is that your windows could be improved. Is double glazing used in your windows? Are your windows more than 20years old? Do your windows suffer from condensation, and do you get little pools of water on your windowsills? Are the windows warped or rotting and can you feel drafts around your windows? Are your windows easy to open and can they be locked easily? These are just a few of the factors which indicate that your windows may need replacing.

By installing double glazed replacement windows and doors you will be able to solve all of the above issues. Double glazing improves the security, safety and efficiency of a home making it a very worthwhile investment that in the long run will save you money on your gas and electricity bills. Double glazing has also proven time and again to be very popular with potential house buyers and can therefore add value to your property and make it easier to sell.

uPVC Windows & Doors | How Safe is Your Home? Do you need Replacement Windows and Doors?

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Autumn is fast approaching the leaves are falling off the trees, the air is getting cooler and the days are getting shorter. Before long it will be winter and it is important that we are all fully prepared. For many older people particularly the winter can be a scary time with the long dark nights and it is important that we all feel safe in our home. By checking the security of our homes now we can ensure that we have a safe and happy winter.

Your windows should let in fresh air, sunlight and not much else. Old fashioned timber framed windows often have flimsy locks. Ideally you should fit uPVC window with multipoint mortice locks. But if your budget will not run to this then you should at least fit key operated locks to your existing windows. Again if the budget will allow fit double glazing rather than single glazing as it is much tougher and harder to break than single glazing. Double glazing will also help to lower you gas and electricity bills as it is far more energy efficient. uPVC windows are generally seen as the most secure windows available but they do actually vary in quality. Look out for uPVC window that have multipoint locking systems and an internal beading system so the glass cannot be removed from the outside.

Your doors are the other major weak spot in your home. Ideally your front door should have a five lever mortice deadlock. Also any glazing within the doors should be double glazed, both these features come as standard on most good quality uPVC doors. Consider installing a spy hole and a security chain so you are able to see who is outside your home before you let them in. Letter boxes should be no closer to the lock than 400mm and an internal cover plate is also a good idea. It is easy to only focus on the front and back doors but you also need to think about patio doors and French doors too. Research shows that patio doors are actually one of the favourite methods for many burglars entering your home. Anti lift devices and extra locks are available for patio doors which can help to make them more secure.

There is nothing worse than not feeling safe in our own homes and by taking some precautions now you can be safe in the knowledge that you have taken precautions to improve the security of your home.
